McMaster Second Life Island

Spring 2008

The Game

The McMaster Second Life Island is a surreal recreation of a unversity setting, complete with a 3D video game avatar sculpture garden. It contains showcases and examples for professors and students, to educate them as to how a 3D virtual world can be used as a teaching tool.

I created the Second Life Island and was a TA for a McMaster University course, wherein I taught tutorials on how to model and script within Second Life.

Read about the project's virtual garden in McMaster's daily news.

My Role

I created all of the 3D items within the island's space, and scripted all of the objects within the island. I also designed the overal look of the island, and the tutorials in which students followed to create their works.

What I Learned

I learned how to use LSL and the 3D sculpture tools, and also the complications involved in creating and managing collaborative content in a 3D world. I also learned about the current problems involved in using virtual worlds as educational tools.
