The Game

Carbon Chaos is an engaging action puzzle game for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Put passengers onto busses, cars, or bikes and send them to destinations to earn points. But watch out for the CO2 trailing out of your cars and busses!

Cars and buses cannot pass through CO2 gas, so you'll have to navigate another route or use CO2-clearing green roof upgrades!

My Role

Officially I was the designer on the team, but I also programmed, created UI art, and took on the production duties for the project. It was my job to maintain the overall vision and concept of the game, and to ensure the game was fun to play.

My role saw me wear many hats throughout the game's 3-month development cycle. I contributed to the codebase of the project as one of four programmers, where I worked on UI elements, level design, the greenroof mechanic, and bug fixes. I also designed several UI elements and 2D feedback systems seen within the game.

On the production side, I created and organized the project's task list, milestone schedule, and bug database. It was my responsibility to prioritize the team's tasks (and bugs) based on the project's needs on a day-to-day basis.

What I Learned

Most importantly, I learned how to effectively implement the production skills I acquired at Relic Entertainment within a small-scale team, and small-scale project. I learned the importance of starting early, rapid iteration, and accountability throughout development. I also learned how to properly maintain the scope and features within the project by keeping meetings (and team communication) clear and consise.
